Description
Nigerian women are undeniably Nigerians. The status bestow on them, rights and privileges enjoyed by other Nigerians. More so, statistics reveals that they constitute 69,086,302 of Nigeria’s 140,431,790 population. This book examines the enforcement of women’s rights as human rights in Nigeria. In doing this, it considers customs, constitution, laws, policies, courts’ decisions as the court is the last hope of the common man and the place of obligations-imposing international and regional treaties ratified by Nigeria. Also it examines the difficulty of proper balancing of ideals like repressive customs versus societal standards, judicial activism versus Separation of Powers, inadequacy of laws versus non exhaustiveness of laws, international versus local laws supremacy.

Call to Bar special: 45% Discount on all wigs and gowns

Like many uniforms, wigs are an emblem of anonymity, an attempt to distance the wearer from personal involvement and a way to visually draw on the supremacy of the law, says Newton. Wigs are so much a part of a lawyers’s attire to courts that if a barrister doesn’t wear a wig, it’s seen as an insult to the court.
Barristers must wear a wig slightly frizzed at the crown, with horizontal curls on the sides and back. In addition, there are two long strips of hair that hang down below the hairline on the neck and sport a looped curl at each end. Different types of lawyers, though, have distinctions in the style of wig.
A judge’s wig is similar, but more ornate. It’s a full wig, from a slightly frizzed top that transitions into tight horizontal curls that range several inches below the shoulders. Most wigs are made of white horse hair, but as a wig yellows with age, it takes on a coveted patina that conveys experience.
Horse hair may not seem like a particularly precious material, but pair specialty hair with an age-old craft of styling, sewing and gluing, and the resulting wigs aren’t cheap.

The book published by the University of Lagos Press & Bookshop Ltd, reflects the author’s Oni’s over fifteen years’ lecturing experience at the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos on the Law of Succession and Administration of Estate in Nigeria, for which the limited reference materials had hitherto been outdated.
Dr. Oni’s book includes treatment of recent legislation, case law and practices in Will Writing, Will Precedents, Probate Forms, Administration of Estates (Small Scale) Claims and Estate Planning Devices. Apart from being a reference material for students, the book provides a guide for legal practitioners, judges and non-lawyers who are interested in Estate planning and wish to learn how to distribute their property while alive.
About the Book
This book, The Law of Succession in Nigeria, Principles Cases and Practice, is based on research and lecture notes used by the author in teaching Law of Succession and Administration of Estate for over fifteen years.
The book is written in a simple and comprehensive language. It covers intestate customary succession which no writer in Nigeria has adequately considered. The book, therefore, covers the missing links in the older textbooks in these areas.
The author decisively treated recent developments in Will writing Administration of Estates (Small Scale) Claims from a new law enacted by Lagos, Oyo and other States in this as Also considered are Estate Planning devices, Will Precedents and Probate Forms amongst others. The book makes use of the current legislation and recent case law development till date. The book no doubt is reliable and a great companion for undergraduate and post-graduate students. It also provides a guide for legal practitioners, judges and non-lawyers who are interested in Estate planning and wish to learn how to distribute their properties while alive.

The only recognizable system of Land
Tenure in the geographical area now known as Nigeria was the Customary Land Tenure
System. This was the only known indigenous system of land tenure. It is a system of
accepted practice amongst the people, well recognized and enforced and regarded as “a
mirror of accepted usage”
This
customary system of land tenure is all embracing and it defines, the rights, privileges,
interests and title that may be enjoyed on land under customary law. According to the book,
the system though had to make way for modern influence especially the introduction of
British system of land tenure and legislative amendments principally due to the failure of
the customary land tenure to accommodate the growing economic and political
developments in the country; it is still largely recognized as the law governing land
holdings amongst the people who hold their land subject to the customary land tenure. In
effect in spite of the two main great influences on the customary land tenure i.e. Received English laws and local legislation, the customary land tenure still governs the interests on
land held by the people who agree or hold land subject to Native Law and Custom.
In this course, we shall examine the customary land tenure system in Nigeria.
